Akim of the Medeu District of Almaty Yerkebulan Orazalin reported that 200 million tenge was allocated for the New Year's decoration of the area, but after tender procedures, the contract amount came to 160 million tenge.
The district akim during a briefing at the Regional Communications Service (RCS) stated that the tender was held back in spring, which allowed them to order necessary materials in advance and achieve cost savings.
As part of the decoration, it is planned to adorn not only district areas but also murals along the Eastern Bypass Road and bridges.
It is reported that materials have already been delivered, and installation of New Year's decorations will begin next week. The traditional festive decoration of the district will start in mid-December.
For context, earlier the Department of Culture of Petropavlovsk requested 2.5 million tenge for the filming and editing of a video about the ceremony of lighting the city's main Christmas tree in celebration of the New Year.
The request sparked a heated discussion at a meeting of the city maslikhat. Deputies noted that the estimate presented by the department was clearly inflated.
Later, the Department of Housing and Utilities, Passenger Transport and Roads of Ust-Kamenogorsk announced a tender for New Year's decoration of streets and public spaces. The cost of the work was estimated at 71.5 million tenge.
