On the state trading portal, instead of machinery and buildings, unusual lots have appeared — service dogs that have completed their border guard duties. Formally, they are listed as "property", but the publication of the adverts has sparked a public response and an initiative to find new owners for the animals.
WHY THE DOGS ARE BEING AUCTIONED
According to documents posted on the portal, the animals are held by the Department of the Border Service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan (BS NSC RK) in the Kostanay Region, reports "Our Kostanay".
Under supply regulations, the maximum service life of a service dog is 8 years and 3 months. After reaching this age, the animals are deemed unfit for further use in their intended role and are categorised as "unused military property".
WHICH DOGS ARE IN THE AUCTION
Three dogs are being put up for auction:
- Belgian Shepherd Mayra — starting price 2,719 tenge, guarantee deposit 408 tenge.
- German Shepherd Marquise — starting price 935 tenge, guarantee deposit 141 tenge.
- German Shepherd Maybach — starting price 935 tenge, guarantee deposit 141 tenge.
Mayra, Marquise and Maybach are all 10 years old. They have all served their set term.
The auction is scheduled for 20 February 2026 at 10:00. Applications will be accepted up to five minutes before the start of the auction.
HOW THE PUBLIC INITIATIVE CAME ABOUT
The advert was noticed by Bayram Baubekuly, who monitors electronic trading. According to him, in three years of work, he had never come across such lots.
After the information was shared on social media, users responded, including a veterinarian from Kostanay who had previously worked with one of the dogs. He recognised the Belgian Shepherd Mayra and expressed his willingness to take her in.
Bayram Baubekuly said he is ready to pay the guarantee deposits and take part in the auction in order to then hand the dogs over to new owners. He is currently in Kokshetau and is looking for people willing to take the animals.
WHAT SALE THROUGH THE TRADING PORTAL MEANS
From a legal standpoint, service dogs are classified as state property. Therefore, their disposal is handled through the electronic trading procedure on the "E-Qazyna" portal.
