A resident of the village of Zerenda in the Akmola Region lost her long-awaited baby late in her pregnancy. The woman claims the cause was medical negligence.
According to the Telegram channel “HALYQSTAN”, in mid-July, at 32 weeks of pregnancy, the villager was referred from the Zerenda District Hospital to the Regional Perinatal Centre (RPC) with a dangerous diagnosis — pre-eclampsia. This condition, in which the lives of mother and child are under direct threat, requires immediate and professional medical action.
However, according to the victim, the RPC removed the initial diagnosis and did not carry out the mandatory examinations required by order of the Ministry of Health: a fetal ultrasound, Doppler scans and extended CTG monitoring.
On 30 July, a medical council suspected intrauterine growth restriction, but neither urgent delivery nor enhanced monitoring was ordered. On 6 August, an ultrasound showed that foetal development had stopped more than three weeks earlier, and there was no heartbeat.
On 8 August, the woman gave birth to a stillborn child. The post-mortem report confirmed intrauterine foetal death, signs of prolonged hypoxia and oxygen starvation — complications that could have been avoided with timely medical care.
As a result, the victim filed complaints with the Ministry of Health and the Prosecutor General’s Office, demanding that a criminal case be opened under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Improper performance of professional duties by a medical worker”).
The Regional Health Department reported that an internal investigation is underway. The police department noted that the materials have been forwarded to the Department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control for inspection.
