A powerful explosion occurred in the village of Ilyichevka in the Taiynsha district of the North Kazakhstan region on the premises of LLP "Taiynsha May", which is part of the agro-logistics group of the Chinese corporation "Aijiu". Nine people were injured, eight of whom were hospitalised with burns and injuries of varying severity.

According to ORDA, the incident occurred on 25 June at around 16:00. As reported by the North Kazakhstan Police Department, two storage tanks first exploded, after which a Volvo gas tanker caught fire. According to unofficial information, this may have been caused by a broken refuelling hose.

It is noted that among the injured are residents of Kokshetau who had delivered gas to the plant, as well as rescuers who responded to the call.

"Meanwhile, doctors are fighting for the lives of the injured. Eight of them are in hospital. They all sustained body burns and injuries of varying severity," the statement said.

It has become known that LLP "Taiynsha May" is engaged in the production of vegetable oils. The company is part of the Chinese agro-logistics group "Aijiu".

The corporation's main logistics centre is located in the city of Xi'an (PRC), where a dry port is situated, from which trains carrying Kazakhstani oil, flour and other goods regularly depart for countries in Central Asia and Europe.
