According to the state labour inspection committee of the ministry of labour and social protection of the population, from January to September 934 workers were injured at work, of whom 133 suffered fatal injuries. Despite the tragic statistics, the overall level of occupational injuries decreased by 3.4% compared to the same period last year.
According to the ministry's press service, the accident frequency rate for the first half of the year stood at 0.13 per thousand workers. The majority of those injured were in industrial regions: Karaganda (103 people), East Kazakhstan (89), Pavlodar (68), Aktobe (64) and Atyrau region (48), as well as the city of Almaty (51 injured).
The highest risk of injury remains in the mining and metallurgical complex (17.4% of all cases) and the construction industry (10.2%).
Among the main causes of accidents were unsatisfactory organisation of work (34.2%), gross negligence by workers (33.6%), as well as violations of safety rules (8.5%) and traffic regulations (7.8%).
Regarding violations of occupational safety requirements, state inspectors sent 730 investigation materials to law enforcement agencies, resulting in 211 criminal cases being initiated.
Overall, over the past five years, the number of accidents has decreased by 6.7%. To prevent violations, more than 3,200 enterprises have implemented occupational safety and health standards, and 610 companies have joined the international "Zero Harm – Vision Zero" concept.
It is noted that a vertical control model is in place at the country's construction sites, assigning responsibility to general contractors for subcontractors' compliance with safety standards. 318 companies have implemented this system.
Additionally, the ministry of labour has launched the online service "Online Labour Consultant", allowing employers to independently check compliance with occupational safety standards. Since its launch, more than 50,000 enterprises have used it.
Recall that in January, at the Annenkaya mine of the East Zhezkazgan mine, belonging to Kazakhmys company, in the Ulytau region, an accident occurred in which a fifth-grade crusher operator died at work.
In February, at the Zhomart mine of the Kazakhmys Corporation LLP in the Zhanaarka district of the Ulytau region, a collapse of rock mass occurred in the mine. The bodies of seven mine workers were found under the rubble.
In March, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP reported the death of a worker at mine No. 57 of the East Zhezkazgan mine in the Ulytau region.
Also in March, in Stepnogorsk, at the Zapadnaya mine of the Bestobe mine, owned by Kazakhaltyn GMK JSC, a worker died in a rockfall.
In May, at the feed mill of AsiaAgroFood JSC in the Almaty region, a dust explosion occurred, resulting in the deaths of four employees.
In July, at the Alel Agro poultry farm, owned by entrepreneur Margulan Seisembayev, in the Ashchybulak rural district of the Ili district, Almaty region, a large fire occurred in which one person died.
In August, in the village of Bozanbai, Ulan district, East Kazakhstan region, a tractor driver died while performing construction work.
In September, in the Ili district of the Almaty region, at a metal scrap collection point, an explosion of an unknown object occurred, in which three people died.
In October, in Zhezkazgan, during repair work on Zheleznodorozhnaya Street, an employee of a contracting organisation died under a pile of soil.
