According to reports from the media, the Deputy Akim of Kostanay Region, Gulbaram Musagazina, was detained on the evening of 11 February after a visit to the Anti-Corruption Service, where she had been invited for a conversation. It is alleged that following this, she was taken to a temporary detention facility.

The Deputy Akim’s name had previously appeared in the public domain in connection with a criminal case in the region’s healthcare sector. This concerns an investigation into the former head of the Kostanay Regional Health Department, Daniyar Dzhandayev, his deputy Yerbolat Dospanov, and the chief doctor of the Karasu District Hospital, Vladimir Golubev.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted against them on suspicion of corruption offences. According to the investigation, the violations are linked to state procurement of medical equipment for clinics and hospitals.
