Mazhilis deputy Sergei Ponomarev has spoken out against the construction of a 40-storey building at the intersection of Seifullin Avenue and Timiryazev Street in Almaty.

On his Instagram page, he reported that, in addition to this, another five 10-storey buildings are planned for construction near the site. The development is being carried out by the construction company "RAMS".

"Yes, we understand this means square metres, taxes and jobs, but is this huge centre really necessary? The area is already heavily burdened with infrastructure and social facilities. There is a shortage of hospitals, schools and clinics here," the statement reads.

The Mazhilis member claims that the construction company "RAMS" is not fulfilling its promises. According to him, company representatives had previously promised to build a two-kilometre public garden along the Malaya Almatinka River from Zhandosov Street to Utepov Street, adjacent to the "RAMS City" residential complex.

"And what do we see? The private sector hasn't been demolished, there's nothing there, no school has been built, no hospital has been built," the deputy stated.

The Mazhilis member expressed concerns that something similar could happen here as well.

Recall that earlier, Sergei Ponomarev reported that the Almaty crematorium, built in 2021 using state budget funds, has still not been put into operation. According to him, the facility, costing 1.5 billion tenge, turned out to be unwanted by the Ministry of Healthcare.
