The National Security Committee (KNB) warned citizens of Kazakhstan about the spread of fake information purporting to be from the agency.
According to the press service of the KNB of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a so-called "official statement of the agency" has appeared on social media about the creation of a Telegram bot to collect information on individuals spreading anti-patriotic rhetoric, calling for a boycott of the 'Immortal Regiment' campaign, or committing other actions aimed at dividing society.
"This 'statement' is fake, and the information contained in it does not correspond to reality", the statement said.
It was noted that official KNB information is published exclusively on the website 'knb.gov.kz', the Telegram channel 'knbgov_kz', and the Instagram account 'knbgovkz'.
"We urge you to trust only official sources and not to allow the spread of false messages", the agency concluded.
For context, in October 2023, fraudsters used artificial intelligence to create a video featuring an address by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in which the President allegedly called for support for a new investment platform created by Elon Musk.
In early November of the same year, a fake video appeared on Facebook, in which Dariga Nazarbayeva talked about a project allowing residents of Kazakhstan to earn 500,000 tenge in just two hours.
Later, a fake video was circulated online, in which President Tokayev and the head of Kaspi.kz, Mikhail Lomtadze, allegedly talked about a new project that would allow citizens of Kazakhstan to earn from 2 million tenge.
In April of last year, it became known that fraudsters were sending messages to citizens of Kazakhstan ostensibly from members of the government, asking for loans of money until payday. Some citizens even received messages purportedly from Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
In December, Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva reported on her Facebook page that fraudsters, using artificial intelligence, were generating messages supposedly from her.
