The FBRC editorial team continues its series on which preparations are used in treatments to protect against leaf-chewing and sucking pests in the regions of Kazakhstan, and how negatively they can affect living organisms, including humans.
We have previously written about what they continue to poison residents of Astana and Uralsk. In this part, we will talk about which preparations are used in the fight against ticks in the East Kazakhstan region.
According to the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the East Kazakhstan Region, anti-tick treatments are carried out in the region in spring and autumn. This year, the preparation "Favorit" is being used to combat blood-sucking parasites.
_____________
For reference: the preparation "Favorit" is an insectoacaricidal emulsion concentrate in the form of a transparent pink liquid with a faint specific odour. It is intended for the destruction of synanthropic cockroaches, bedbugs, mosquito larvae, ixodid ticks, ants, fleas, wasps, hornets and other harmful insects.
The active ingredients of "Favorit" are synthetic insecticides (also known as pyrethroids) "Alpha-cypermethrin" (at a concentration of 10%) and "Tetramethrin" (at a concentration of 1.5%). We have written repeatedly before about the toxic effects of "Cypermethrin" on living organisms.
- "Alpha-cypermethrin", in turn, is moderately toxic to earthworms, practically non-toxic to birds, but highly toxic to fish, aquatic invertebrates and bees. The substance has moderate persistence in soils.
"Alpha-cypermethrin" can be toxic to humans and animals if used incorrectly or in large doses. Poisoning with "Alpha-cypermethrin" results in impaired coordination of movements, convulsions, salivation, and lacrimation.
The substance can have a negative impact on the environment, especially on some types of insects that are beneficial to the ecosystem. Undesirable insects may develop immunity to "Alpha-cypermethrin", which reduces its effectiveness upon subsequent use.
Despite the fact that the concentration of "Tetramethrin" in the preparation "Favorit" is low, we will still tell you about how the substance affects the environment.
- "Tetramethrin" is highly toxic to aquatic organisms. In humans, external exposure can cause skin and eye irritation and burns. Prolonged or repeated contact with the substance causes skin rash, itching, numbness or tingling sensations.
Inhalation of "Tetramethrin" vapours can cause irritation of the nose, throat and lungs, as well as headache, dizziness, increased fatigue, muscle weakness, nausea and even vomiting.
The FBRC editorial team reminds local executive bodies once again that substances permitted for use in agriculture are extremely dangerous when used in an urban environment.
We also again appeal to the akimats with a request to warn city residents about the possible danger of the preparations being used, and strongly recommend informing the population about precautionary measures during the period of disinsection.
To be continued…
