In the Atbasar District Court of the Akmola Region, a verdict was passed on a doctor accused of fraud using his official position.

According to the court's press service, in July the head of the therapeutic department of a multidisciplinary inter-district hospital admitted a patient diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and acute coronary syndrome.

The suspect knew that within the framework of the guaranteed volume of medical care (GVMC) the patient could receive the necessary assistance at the Astana City Hospital No. 2.

Despite this, he offered the patient's relative to pay for "treatment by a cardiac surgeon" for 1.5 million tenge. At the same time, the accused had no arrangements with any doctors.

The woman, believing that the money was indeed intended for treatment, transferred 1.5 million tenge to the bank account he specified.

In the end, the court found the doctor guilty and sentenced him to 2 years of restriction of liberty with a ban on practising medicine for a period of 3 years. The verdict has not yet come into legal force.

Earlier, the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) completed an investigation into officials of the Kyzlorda Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, who are suspected of embezzling budget funds on an especially large scale.
