In Shymkent, the bodies of four people were found in one of the residential buildings of the Student Town microdistrict. They lived in three different flats in the same stairwell.
WHERE THE DECEASED WERE FOUND
According to KTK TV channel, the preliminary cause of the tragedy is believed to be gas poisoning.
In one flat, the bodies of a 31-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were found. In another flat on the second floor, a 23-year-old man was found with no signs of life.
Another victim was a 20-year-old female student, who was renting a flat on the third floor. According to residents of the building, the girl's body was discovered by the flat's owner.
HOW THE FIRST VICTIM WAS FOUND
Neighbours said the girl was found around midday. The flat's owner came to check on the property and found the bathroom door closed.
«The first girl was found at about 12 o'clock. The flat's owner came and saw that the bathroom door was locked. She opened it, and the tenant had died right there while bathing. After that, the neighbourhood police officer was called,» said local resident Islam Fayzullayev.
After the arrival of the police and rescue services, residents of the stairwell began to be evacuated outside. Emergency services personnel broke into other flats, where they discovered more bodies.
RESIDENTS HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SMELL OF GAS
According to residents of the building, a distinct smell of gas had been noticeable in the stairwell for several days. Neighbours claim this had already been brought to attention, but no action was taken.
No official comments from the gas services had been received at the time of publication.
WHAT CASE HAS THE POLICE OPENED
The police reported the initiation of a criminal case regarding the provision of services resulting in someone's death.
