The former governor of North Kazakhstan Region (SKO), ex-senator Samat Eskendirov, has been sentenced for fraud.

According to Informburo.kz, Eskendirov, together with an accomplice, forged meeting minutes without the consent of the LLP's participants and pledged land plots belonging to villagers in the Burabay District to obtain loans.

"As a result, they seized the right to the conditional land shares of the village residents, causing material damage to the victims on an especially large scale," the court reported.

Last year, the decision of the LLP's founders' meeting and the agreement on the transfer of rights to third parties were declared invalid. The land was returned to the victims through court proceedings, therefore there were no grounds for compensation of material damage to the village residents.

The court found Eskendirov guilty and sentenced him to 5 years' suspended imprisonment.

It is worth noting that Eskendirov was appointed governor of the North Kazakhstan Region in January 2013. A year later, he resigned. It then became known that the reasons were criminal cases against the head of the construction department and the deputy governor of one of the districts.

Prior to this, Eskendirov served as governor of the Zhambyl and Kyzylzhar districts of the North Kazakhstan Region. In August 2011, he was elected Senator of the Parliament from the North Kazakhstan Region on the list of the Nur Otan party. He remained a senator until January 2013.

Recall that in July, during one of the court hearings in Eskendirov's case, the victims' lawyer, Manarbek Abzhanov, complained about the court's bias towards the village residents. In addition, he stated that unknown individuals were threatening the villagers. He even filed a motion to take security measures for the victims.

The state prosecutor also supported this appeal. The court revealed that the defendant's relatives visited, called, and asked the victims to drop the charges against Eskendirov.
