Staff from the organised crime control unit (OCCU) of the Pavlodar Regional Police Department prevented an attempt at the illegal sale of a kidney.
According to Polisia.kz, in mid-July, operatives received information that a female citizen from a neighbouring country had arrived in Pavlodar to sell an internal organ. After discussing terms and the price, she agreed to the deal.
OCCU officers caught the woman red-handed while she was receiving a deposit.
"A criminal case has been opened under an article providing for liability for the illegal removal of human organs and tissues. The suspect has been arrested, and a range of investigative actions are being carried out," said Bolat Nurseitov, First Deputy Head of the Regional Police Department.
He reminded that illegal transplantation, as well as the purchase and sale of human organs and tissues, is prohibited by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Criminal liability is provided for such acts.
Recall that in February last year, police in Kokshetau broke up the sale of a human organ. A native of Aktobe valued his kidney at $18,000 and posted an advertisement online. He put the organ up for sale on the condition that the buyer would arrange the surgical operation.
In September, staff from the prosecutor's office in Aktobe, while monitoring the internet, detained a local resident who was planning to sell his internal organs for 9 million tenge.
As is known, the first such crime in Kazakhstan was recorded in 2015. At that time, the investigation established that in Astana, the parties had agreed on the sale of a kidney for transplantation for the sum of $15,000. In 2016, the buyer was sentenced to one and a half years of probation.
In May, in Aktobe, a man who tried to sell his internal organs for 15 million tenge was detained.
