The executive director of the public association "Әділдік жолы" Didar Smagulov received the Anti-Corruption Champion Award from the US State Department.
According to the Telegram channel "Way to the Truth", this information appeared on the department's website.
"The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the US State Department recognises Didar Smagulov as a champion in the fight against corruption for bringing corrupt officials to justice and implementing long-term systemic reforms," the statement said.
It is noted that the US established the Anti-Corruption Champions Award in 2021. This award is given to those who take notable steps in countering corruption.
Recall that in April, Didar Smagulov visited a location in the Turkestan Region where, according to documents, a dam worth 2.2 billion tenge was supposed to have been built using budget funds, but he found nothing of the sort there. The activist stated that the water-retaining structure was supposed to be up to 2.5 metres high and 40 kilometres long.
In June, Didar Smagulov created a petition to ban gambling for civil servants, which gathered the necessary number of signatures required for it to be considered by the government. Since the beginning of September, a law came into effect in Kazakhstan banning civil servants from participating in gambling.
