In Ekibastuz, the city court heard a criminal case regarding the embezzlement of funds from JSC "Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2 Station". The defendants were accused of misappropriation and embezzlement on an especially large scale when entering into a contract with a company that, in fact, did not have the resources to carry out the work on installing a rotary-stacker machine and purchasing equipment for a dredger.
According to the court's press service, the work was not completed in full, and the equipment was only partially delivered. For one of the defendants, the charge was reclassified to fraud; however, he was released from criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, and for another episode, he was acquitted.
The remaining defendants were found not guilty: the court stated that there was no corpus delicti and granted them the right to compensation for harm caused by unlawful criminal prosecution.
The civil claim of JSC "Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2 Station" was partially satisfied by the court. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
It will be recalled that in February last year, the prosecutor's office of Pavlodar region revealed large-scale embezzlement at JSC "Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2". It was noted that the funds were intended for the expansion and reconstruction of the thermal power plant with the installation of a third power unit. The amount of unconfirmed work was approximately 1 billion tenge.
