A senior investigator from the Department of Economic Investigations for the Mangistau Region has found himself in the dock in Aktau. The criminal case against him has already been sent to court, reported the National Security Committee (NSC).
According to media reports, the individual in question is an employee of the investigative department, Samat Kaliyev, who is accused of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale.
WHAT ARTICLE THE INVESTIGATOR IS BEING CHARGED WITH
The NSC confirmed that the investigation has been completed and the case materials have been sent to court.
As reported by Ulysmedia.kz, Samat Kaliyev has been charged under Part 4 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Accepting a bribe”). This article falls under the category of particularly serious corruption offences.
Official details of the charges have not been disclosed in the materials.
WHO IS INVOLVED IN THE CASE WITH HIM
According to a source, Askar Moldabekov is also involved in the case alongside Kaliyev. He has been charged under Article 368 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Mediation in bribery”).
In open sources, a person with this name is listed as a forensic medical expert. No other official details of the case's circumstances have been specified.
WHERE THE TRIAL IS TAKING PLACE AND WHAT THE PREVENTIVE MEASURE IS
The trial is being heard in the Specialised Inter-District Criminal Court of the Mangistau Region.
Samat Kaliyev insisted on the case being heard with the participation of a jury. The court granted this request.
The court rejected the defence's motion to change the preventive measure. Despite arguments concerning health conditions and family circumstances, the defendant remains in custody.
At the time of publication, no response to the inquiry had been received from the Department of Economic Investigations.
