As part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Protection of Children from Violence, Suicide Prevention and Ensuring Their Rights for 2023–2025, a special SIM card for children has been launched in Almaty. The project has been implemented by the city prosecutor's office together with the mobile operator TELE2/ALTEL on the instructions of the Prosecutor General.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, the SIM card, named «SIM KIDS», is designed for safe internet access for minors. It has been reported that the system automatically filters harmful and destructive content, restricting access to potentially dangerous resources. In addition, parents can monitor their child's activity in apps and contact them even when the device is in silent mode.
The project has already completed the testing phase and is now available for connection to anyone interested.
The initiative aims to improve digital safety for minors and prevent the negative influence of the online environment.
Earlier we reported on the leak of personal data of Kazakh citizens, including millions of phone numbers. How effective the protection of the database containing children's numbers will be under the «SIM KIDS» project remains to be seen.
