The ceiling almost collapsed onto a woman and a child in Astana

People miraculously escaped injury after a ceiling collapsed onto them in the entrance of a residential complex in the capital, Koktem. They were literally a fraction of a second away from tragedy - they had only just passed the fateful spot when building materials rained down from above.

According to the Telegram channel «ZHEST_KZ», similar incidents have occurred in this residential complex before. It is reported that this is linked to serious problems with the building's maintenance.

It has become known that in the 5th entrance of the complex, the ceiling has already collapsed twice on the first floor. Local residents say they have repeatedly appealed to the maslikhat (local council) to intervene, but so far nothing has changed.

It is reported that this is happening due to water leaks and a faulty storm drainage system. In turn, residents of the complex are asking for this information to be shared so that the authorities will take up the repair of the building.

For context, the editorial staff of FBRK periodically covers problems in residential complexes in Astana. For example, it was reported that a technical floor converted into residential apartments in Astana would be demolished. It then emerged that the customer, the residential building cooperative «Elіmai City», had carried out construction and installation work deviating from the project, specifically converting the technical floor into residential apartments. Consequently, an administrative violation report was drawn up against the developer and an order was issued to rectify the situation.

We also wrote about the problems of residents of the capital's Boston Comfort House residential complex, whose developer is Grand Status LLP, which did not have the right to attract funds from shareholders for the construction of the neighbouring Boston Comfort House 2 complex. As a result of an official appeal by the FBRK editorial board to the Akimat of Astana, an unscheduled inspection of the site was carried out, after which the developer was held administratively liable and obliged to operate within the law.

Additionally, we became aware that in September 2023, the Akimat of Astana planned to spend 892,857,142 tenge on upgrading the storm drainage system. It was reported that the state enterprise «Elorda Eco System» should be responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of this system.

Incidentally, construction on the storm drainage system in the capital began back in November 2021. The first phase of construction cost the state 10 billion tenge. The winner was Almatyinskstroy JSC. In April 2022, it was reported that a tender worth 6.6 billion tenge was announced for the second phase of construction. The winner was the Kyzylorda-based company Meliorator LLP.
