In Taraz, the owner of a Ford Fiesta discovered years later that his car, seized by the police back in October 2017 and sent to an impound lot, had disappeared.

According to the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», the car was handed over to a security agency for safekeeping, but in December 2022 it emerged that the vehicle was no longer on the lot. Its current whereabouts remain unknown. A pre-trial investigation into the theft is underway.

The owner took the matter to court, arguing that the security agency should have ensured the safety of his property. Experts valued the lost vehicle at 3.4 million tenge.

The defendant denied responsibility, but failed to provide evidence that the car had been properly looked after, or that its disappearance occurred without their fault.

The court also established that, back in 2017, the police had no grounds whatsoever for placing the car on the impound lot. Nevertheless, from 2019 the vehicle was under the care of the security firm and disappeared during its period of custody.

Ultimately, the owner’s claim was upheld in full: the security agency was ordered to pay 3.4 million tenge in damages, as well as legal costs.

It is worth recalling that in May, the Prosecutor’s Office of Almaty Region uncovered a case of looting of confiscated property stored at a specialised impound lot.

This involved a Volvo FH tractor unit with a trailer, with a total value of over 100 million tenge. The vehicle had previously been seized as part of administrative proceedings and was due to be confiscated by the state. However, while in storage at the lot, the tractor unit was dismantled and its parts stolen.
