The eldest of the three Nigmatulin brothers – Argyn Nigmatulin has been placed on the wanted list.
According to media reports, the wanted notice was published on the portal of legal statistics and special records of the Prosecutor General's Office.
"The wanted notice dated 3 March 2025 was registered in the 'Astana' region. Initiator: the prosecutor's office. Authority conducting the search: the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan", the statement reads.
It is worth recalling that former Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin stepped down from his post on 1 February 2022 following the January events. He had chaired the lower house of parliament since 2016, marking his second term as speaker – he previously held the position from 2012 to 2014. Over the years, he also served as head of the presidential administration and as akim of the Karaganda region.
Yerlan Nigmatulin – Nurlan Nigmatulin's twin brother – likewise held a deputy's seat in both the Majilis and the Senate. Both brothers have repeatedly faced unofficial accusations of corporate raids and possible links to criminal structures.
Argyn Nigmatulin is their older brother, a former deputy of the Karaganda region maslikhat. Incidentally, last July it was reported that the regional prosecutor's office had returned the Saryarka ice hockey club, valued at 900 million tenge, to the state. At the time, it was also noted that the club fell within the sphere of interest of Argyn Nigmatulin.
