Another 105 billion pension funds were invested in Baiterek bonds

A huge sum was again funnelled from the Unified Accumulative Pension Fund (UAPF) into JSC «NMH «Baiterek». It is reported that another tranche of Kazakhstanis' pension savings, approximately 105 billion tenge, was invested in the bonds of the national holding. 

According to informburo.kz, the UAPF presented a report on its investment activities for May 2024. During this period, the UAPF's investment portfolio was supplemented with bonds of JSC «NMH «Baiterek» worth 104.87 billion tenge with a yield of 13.48% per annum

It is reported that the total value of quasi-government bonds increased in May to 1.9 trillion tenge, accounting for 10.09% of the entire portfolio. 

Furthermore, in May, government securities (GS) of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan were purchased for 113 billion tenge and US government securities for 126.09 billion tenge

Since the beginning of 2024, the amount of accrued investment income has reached 647.07 billion tenge. The return on pension assets of the UAPF, which was distributed to the accounts of depositors, stands at 3.49%

For context, the UAPF had previously presented a report for January on how it managed pension assets. At that time, it was reported that the Fund had purchased bonds of the «Baiterek» holding for 173.3 billion tenge (albeit with a slightly lower yield of 13% per annum and a maturity term of 15 years).
