The Konayev city administration has commented on reports about the transfer of a land plot on the local beach to Chinese investors.

According to Informburo.kz, information had previously circulated online claiming that a land plot of 7.12 hectares had been given to Chinese citizens in Konayev.

"Zhibek Zholy LLP plans to implement a project to improve Beach No. 8 and intends to invest. The area of this territory is 7.9 hectares. The adjacent territory to this beach, covering 7.12 hectares and forming part of Beach No. 7, is also included in the investment project. In total, a 15-hectare site will be transformed into an amusement park," the statement said.

The city administration said that currently, more than 40 entrepreneurs are operating on city beach No. 7, renting cafes, gazebos, and tents from the local authority. Two of these business facilities have been included in the investment project.

"The entrepreneurs will continue working until the end of the swimming season. Work is currently underway to find the best solution for both parties," the administration reported.

Based on the comments from the mayor of Konayev, Askhat Berdikhanov, it remains entirely unclear whether the beach plot in question has actually been handed over, or only part of it with two business facilities, to the Chinese citizens who are allegedly planning to implement some investment project there, or not.

We hope that in the very near future, local authorities or regional leadership will provide clearer explanations on this rather sensitive issue.

For context, a Chinese investor, Yu Hua Han, previously stated that five years ago, a man promised to help him build a concrete plant in Shymkent and fraudulently obtained 530 million tenge from him.
