In the Akhzhaik District of the West Kazakhstan Region, a whole herd of horses almost drowned in the Zhaiyk River.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the herdsmen lost sight of the horses during grazing, and the animals ended up in the water. It is reported that rescuers, together with local executive authorities, drove the animals to a safe place. A total of 365 horses were saved, including 31 foals.
"The foals were transported by boat, as the depth of the water was dangerous for them. At first, the animals reacted fearfully to the arrival of the rescuers, then they began to walk along the path laid out to the boat, and in this way the herd made its way to dry land", the statement said.
Recall that earlier, following information about the death of a large number of horses in the Ulytau region, employees of the Ministry of Agriculture visited the region for an inspection. As a result of this inspection, ministry workers were unable to identify 67 dead animals or determine their owners.
Also in February, it was reported that farmers in the Akmola Region were asking for help to save livestock dying in the steppe and to urgently declare a state of emergency. The horses were dying of starvation right on the winter pastures - the abnormal weather prevented them from reaching the grass under the icy snow. According to veterinarians, at least 200 horses died.
