In the North Kazakhstan Region, water continues to rise in the suburban areas of Petropavlovsk. At present, besides the Zarechny settlement, the Teplychny settlement is also under threat of flooding.
According to the Telegram channel «Halyqstan», water is eroding dams, flooding roads, and approaching residential buildings. It is noted that people are being transported to these settlements by shift buses, but soon this method will also become unavailable.
Meanwhile, there are reports of a threat of a dam breach in the Teplychny settlement, where the first deputy mayor of the North Kazakhstan Region resides.
Information is circulating in local public pages about the mobilisation of around 500 employees from various agencies to combat the natural disaster.
“Whether they can reinforce the dam is a big question. Based on last year's experience, it can be said that sandbags are unlikely to hold back such a disaster. There is about 50 cm left before overflow occurs,” the message states.
It has become known that over the past 24 hours, the water level at the Petropavlovsk reservoir has risen by 26 cm. According to rescuers, the rise is active – 3-4 cm per hour.
Recall that earlier in Petropavlovsk, due to the rising water level in the Esil River, flooding occurred on dacha plots in the Zarechny settlement and the Riverport area. The mayor of the North Kazakhstan Region, Gauyes Nurmukhambetov, reported that this year the flood in the region is occurring in three waves. Meanwhile, the peak of the flood in Petropavlovsk is expected on 28–30 April.
