In Uralsk, residents are complaining about unsanitary conditions near the only water collection point in the district at the intersection of Kekilbaev and Dosmukhamedov streets.
According to the publication "My City", a local resident Anna Erazumova said that rubbish bins had been installed around the water point, from which an unpleasant smell spreads and waste leaks in hot weather. Dozens of families who are unable to have water piped into their homes use this water point.
"It's nearly forty degrees heat, flies, infection, rubbish scattered everywhere — and all this next to the water point where people get their water. An epidemic is not far off. People are not pigs. <…> According to the rules, there should be at least 20 metres from a water point to a rubbish dump. But now the rubbish is literally within walking distance of the water source," says Anna Erazumova.
Earlier, during repairs to the rubbish disposal area, the bins were temporarily moved to the water point, but after the work was completed, they were not returned to their original place. Residents have contacted the relevant authorities, but the situation has not changed.
The city's housing and communal services department explained that they plan to install new plastic containers at this address. The platform for them is already ready, but according to the department, it is impossible to temporarily place the old iron bins there. The department could not specify a timeframe for replacing the bins.
Furthermore, officials believe that even if the containers are moved, residents will continue to throw rubbish in the same place.
