Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepekha commented on the incident with police officers from the Turkestan region, who took 200,000 tenge from tourists from Belarus, ostensibly for the lack of a Kazakhstani vehicle inspection.
As reported by Zakon.kz, citing the deputy minister, the patrol police officers were dismissed.
"We are currently conducting an investigation and have opened a case. These officers have been dismissed as of today," Igor Lepekha stated.
Recall that earlier, travellers from Belarus published a video online in which they recounted that they were driving along a highway in the Turkestan region without breaking traffic rules, but were stopped by patrol officers.
The police officers demanded a local vehicle inspection from the tourists and claimed they had been caught on camera. However, they provided no evidence. The law enforcement officers allegedly promised that after handing over the money, the tourists would not be stopped again.
