In Ust-Kamenogorsk, three police officers have been convicted of extorting 3 million tenge from a public figure.
As reported by media citing the press service of the courts of the East Kazakhstan Region, a criminal case was heard in Ust-Kamenogorsk against officers of the police department, who were accused under Article 362, Part 4, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Abuse of official powers for the purpose of obtaining benefits and advantages for oneself") and under Article 194, Part 2, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Extortion committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy").
According to the investigation, in June last year, the police obtained information about the private life of a local resident who is a public figure.
Using their official positions, they blackmailed him with the dissemination of a video recording. Later, the victim handed over 3 million tenge to the police officers.
The court found the law enforcement officers guilty and sentenced one of them to 6 years' imprisonment, while the other two received 5 years and 6 months' imprisonment each. All were permanently stripped of the right to hold positions in the civil service.
Recall that in March last year, a video appeared online in which a woman appeals to the President, claiming that her husband was beaten by police officers from the Talgar District Police Department of the Almaty Region and that drugs were planted on him.
