A paramedic from Stepnogorsk, Svetlana Oksyuta, said she was attacked while on a call, but no one faced any punishment for it.
According to Informburo.kz, the incident took place on 26 August. Oksyuta said that after she arrived at a call about a young man having epileptic seizures, a woman and her daughter began beating her in the courtyard of the house.
"She punched me in the right eye, and on the other side, her daughter hit me between my left ear and left temple. All of this was accompanied by foul language. The reason for the aggressive behaviour was that, in their opinion, we took too long to get there. They said – ‘the stupid ambulance’ took 18 minutes", the medic recalled.
Svetlana claims they arrived at the call in 7 minutes, which is confirmed by GPS tracker data. A forensic medical examination showed that she suffered minor harm to her health.
Meanwhile, the suspect in the beating, Irina Volkhonskaya, stated that the conflict arose because the paramedic refused to let her accompany the patient. However, she denies inflicting the beating.
"The young man was not her relative, but her family often helped him as he was a former orphanage pupil" , the report says.
It is noted that the police registered a case regarding the infliction of bodily harm on the paramedic on the day the medic reported it. The investigation is still ongoing.
Recall that in January, a video appeared on social media showing 36-year-old Nurbolat Dakebaev violently beating an ambulance driver in a courtyard in Karaganda. It was later reported that he had been arrested. He was detained at one of the wintering stations in the Karkaraly District. Subsequently, the beaten driver released a video statement saying he forgave his assailant.
It later emerged that the police reclassified Dakebaev's actions as hooliganism. This was on the grounds that the forensic medical examination allegedly established that the victim's bodily injuries fell into the category of minor severity.
However, the victim disagreed with this and filed a civil lawsuit, demanding 5 million tenge from the defendant as compensation. According to the driver, he sustained more serious injuries than the forensic medical examination determined.
In June, the case of Dakebaev was sent back to the prosecutor's office to be combined with another criminal case. The judge ruled that, in addition to hooliganism, Dakebaev was suspected of causing moderate harm to health.
In August, Nurbolat Dakebaev was found guilty of intentionally causing moderate harm to health out of hooligan motives and was sentenced to 2 years' imprisonment in a minimum-security correctional facility.
