The Ecology Department of Atyrau Region, together with the specialised environmental prosecutor's office of the region, inspected the ‘Morskoye’ oil field in Zhylyoi District, which belongs to Kozhan JSC.
“In order to determine the plan for compliance with environmental legislation at well No. 56 of the Morskoye field, Kozhan JSC conducted an external inspection,” the department's press service reported.
During the inspection, agency employees found that an emergency had occurred at the well, resulting in the discharge of pollutants - a liquid mixed with oil had spilled. At the same time, company representatives did not report the incident to the authorised bodies within the established timeframe.
Based on the results of the inspection, Kozhan JSC was fined 393,200 tenge for the unauthorised release of pollutants. Additionally, an administrative protocol was drawn up against the company, and the materials were sent to the police department of Atyrau Region.
It will be recalled that earlier, the prosecutor's office of Mangystau Region fined Mangistaumunaigaz JSC 32 billion tenge for environmental damage. The company was found to have discharged wastewater into the subsoil and accumulated drilling waste without established limits.
