A resident of the Ulytau region has been sentenced for the unauthorised use of subsoil and the legalisation of criminal income.

According to the press service of the Agency for Financial Monitoring, the suspect illegally mined manganese ore from the «Vostochny Karazhal» quarry between 2020 and 2023 without a licence or a subsoil use contract.

As a result, the volume of shipped ore exceeded 16,000 tonnes, and the damage to the state amounted to more than 1.1 billion tenge.

To legalise the funds, the suspect entered into fictitious transactions, through which, via limited liability companies under his control, he sold processed iron-manganese ore both domestically and in Russia.

The criminal income from sales amounted to more than 3.5 billion tenge.

The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 6 years and 8 months in prison. The court also ordered the confiscation of his property worth 97.8 million tenge: 5 vehicles and a farming enterprise.

It should be recalled that earlier, in the Zhitikara district of the Kostanay region, authorities stopped the illegal mining of gold. The land plot was designated for agricultural production but was used for the illegal extraction of precious metals.
