The Burabay District Court of the Akmola Region has considered a criminal case concerning the cruel treatment of a minor and the improper fulfilment of parenting duties.

According to the press service of the regional courts, a resident of Shchuchinsk took a minor born in 2014 into foster care in March 2022, who has a mental illness. Having assumed these responsibilities, the woman subjected him to regular beatings.

For reference: foster care is a form of family placement for orphans and children left without parental care, which involves receiving financial assistance from the state. This system allows children who are not readily taken for adoption — those with health problems or who have siblings — to be placed in a family.

As it became known, in October 2024, the defendant inflicted bodily harm on the boy, striking his leg with a metal hoe

“According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, Ch. was found to have bodily injuries in the form of an abrasion and a scar”, the statement says.

In the end, the court sentenced the woman to a fine in the amount of 80 MCI (295,360 tenge). She was also deprived of the right to hold teaching positions or engage in activities related to the upbringing of minors for a period of 2 years.
