The Anti-Corruption Agency is investigating a criminal case against a former commander of the troops of the Regional Command "East" – a retired major general.

According to the agency's press service, he is suspected of abuse of trust. Using his authority as a senior military officer, the suspect acquired a particularly large sum of money from an entrepreneur.

"The crime was committed under the pretext of obtaining high returns from investments in social projects in the territory of Kazakhstan, allegedly with the assistance of influential representatives of ministries and foreign partners," the statement said.

By court order, the suspect has been taken into custody. Law enforcement officers are checking his involvement in similar criminal offences. The investigation is ongoing.

Recall that in May, the military court of the Aktobe garrison delivered a verdict on the head and senior investigator of the Western Regional Directorate of Military Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In December 2024, the defendants demanded a bribe of 1 million tenge from a colleague, threatening him with dismissal and other consequences. They were subsequently arrested while receiving 700,000 tenge.
