Employees of the Kazakh Telecom branch are suspected of abusing their authority

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

The Anti-Corruption Service for Zhambyl Region is investigating a criminal case against officials of the ‘Service Factory’, a branch of Kazakhtelecom JSC, on charges of abuse of power.

According to the press service of the agency, the ‘Service Factory’ is a division responsible for managing the national company's property portfolio.

The general director and some employees of the branch are suspected of selling an administrative building to an entrepreneur at a deliberately undervalued price.

As a result, these actions caused material damage to the state amounting to more than 450 million tenge.

“As interim measures to compensate for the damage caused, the aforementioned property has been seized. With court approval, the suspects have been taken into custody,” the statement said.

According to our information, this is not the only property about which law enforcement agencies have questions.

Recall that we reported on the detention of a senior employee of Kazakhtelecom JSC back in mid-November. At the time, it was reported that law enforcement officers suspected a member of the board of Kazakhtelecom – the chief director for the corporate segment, Almat Karamanov – of abusing his official powers.

It was noted that Karamanov, while serving as general director of the ‘Service Factory’ in 2019, allegedly with the assistance of the company's former head of property management, M. O. Smetov, and a specialist from the same department, I. V. Kukharenko, sold a 3-storey administrative building of Kazakhtelecom at a reduced price.
