The court in Taraz has begun hearing the case of the former chief physician of the regional centre for HIV/AIDS prevention and control, Aibek Isayev. He is suspected of abuse of office and embezzling 100 million tenge from the budget.
According to ORDA, the case against the former chief physician was opened following an inspection by the Anti-Corruption Service. The investigation believes that Isayev purchased expired medicines and medical products from suppliers.
"The centre purchased products with a residual shelf life from suppliers to save money. And the chief physician, Aibek Isayev, who allegedly managed to embezzle 100 million tenge, was supposedly responsible for all of this", the statement says.
It is noted that Isayev is currently under a written undertaking not to leave the place of residence.
Earlier in Taraz, as previously reported, a deputy chief physician and chief accountant of the city's multidisciplinary hospital were convicted. The defendants embezzled funds from the medical institution totalling more than 758 million tenge. At the same time, the deputy chief physician laundered the criminally obtained money, making a profit of 4.4 million tenge.
