A sentence has been handed down in Zhezkazgan to the head of the ecology department for the Ulytau region, Dastan Tleubekov, his deputy Amirkhan Targynov, and two local businessmen in a corruption case.

According to the press service of the region's courts, between October and December 2024, Tleubekov and Targynov received bribes totalling 5.2 million tenge.

Furthermore, between December 2024 and January 2025, the region's chief ecologist personally received another 2.5 million tenge as a bribe. The bribe was intended for committing illegal actions in the interests of the businessmen.

It became known that the director of LLP "R" gave the head and deputy head of the department a bribe of 1.7 million tenge for approving environmental quality indicator projects.

In turn, the director of LLP "E" gave them a bribe of 3.5 million tenge for approving the draft consolidated volume of maximum permissible emissions in Satpayev.

In the third episode, a citizen, against whom criminal prosecution was terminated, gave Dastan Tleubekov 2.5 million tenge for issuing an environmental permit.

"All defendants, at the stage of the pre-trial investigation and during the judicial investigation, fully admitted their guilt on the charges brought against them; in addition, their guilt was confirmed by the totality of the evidence presented", the statement said.

The court found Dastan Tleubekov and Amirkhan Targynov guilty and sentenced each to 6 years in prison. The businessmen were fined 35 million tenge and 70 million tenge, respectively.

"All convicts were given an additional punishment in the form of a lifetime ban from holding positions in the civil service, as a judge, in local government bodies, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its departments, the authorised body for regulation, control and supervision of the financial market and financial organisations, state organisations and quasi-public sector entities", the statement said.

It will be recalled that Tleubekov's detention was reported at the beginning of January this year. It was noted then that he was suspected of receiving a bribe from a representative of LLP "Bass Gold" for issuing an environmental permit.
