A resident of Astana has had their sentence changed for offering a bribe. The initial punishment of a fine was replaced with a prison sentence.
According to the press service of the capital's prosecutor's office, a court sentence ordered the city resident to pay a fine of 240.3 million tenge for repeatedly offering bribes.
He later provided the bailiff with copies of receipts for partial payment of the fine totalling 196 million tenge. However, law enforcement established that the money had not reached the budget, and the receipt turned out to be forged.
"On the instruction of the district prosecutor's office, the bailiff applied to the court to replace the fine with a prison sentence, which was granted," the statement reads.
As a result, the court replaced the convicted man's punishment of a fine with seven years' imprisonment.
In connection with the provision of forged receipts, Astana prosecutors are conducting an investigation.
