Since 2022, property worth $1.6 billion (over 732 billion tenge) has been seized from Kairat Satybaldy and his associates, of which $661.5 million has been returned from abroad.
According to the Anti-Corruption Agency, criminal cases against the former president's nephew were investigated on charges of embezzlement on an especially large scale from JSC Kazakhtelecom, JSC Center for Transport Services, legalisation (laundering) of money and other property obtained by criminal means, as well as evasion of customs duties by a company controlled by Satybaldy.
It is noted that Kairat Satybaldy registered part of the property in the names of close relatives, affiliated persons and companies under his control. During the investigation, he fully admitted his guilt, compensated for the damage in full, and also assisted in the investigation of criminal offences and the disclosure of property obtained by criminal means.
It is reported that the returned assets include administrative buildings, exclusive jewellery, luxury houses, apartments and cars, shares and equity interests in companies, railway lines and cash, including from abroad.
The total amount of assets returned during the pre-trial investigation in criminal cases against Kairat Satybaldy is 732.8 billion tenge. These include:
- 28.8% of shares in JSC Kazakhtelecom - 93.8 billion tenge
- JSC CTB - 30.2 billion tenge
- Equity interests in four companies - 10.3 billion tenge
- Property assets in Kazakhstan - 158.5 billion tenge
- Exclusive jewellery - 105.39 billion tenge ($230 million)
- Money in Kazakhstani accounts - 36.8 billion tenge
- Money from Austria - 36.8 billion tenge ($82.1 million)
- Money from Liechtenstein - 116.7 billion tenge ($260.5 million)
- Money from the UAE - 6.3 billion tenge ($14 million)
- Money from Turkey - 2.2 billion tenge ($4.92 million)
- Realisation of securities - 135.8 billion tenge ($300 million)
"115 Kazakhstani properties worth over 158 billion tenge have been transferred to state ownership, including 73 real estate properties (13 houses, 10 buildings, 13 land plots, 4 apartments, 3 structures, 2 madrasah buildings with extensions, 2 parking spaces, 25 premises, 1 unfinished construction object), 37 items of movable property (29 cars, 5 units of special equipment, 3 quad bikes) and other property", the Anti-Corruption Agency reported.
It is reported that the total area of administrative buildings transferred to the state in Astana and Almaty exceeds 180,000 m². One of the luxury properties, namely the former residence of Satybaldy in the village of Barap, Akmola region, with a total area of 1,500 m² and a land plot of 135 hectares, has been transferred to the Department of Education of the city of Astana.
