Almaty BRT will be built next year

Construction of the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line in Almaty has been postponed until next year.

According to media reports, the city's akimat stated that the postponement would help avoid transport chaos caused by road closures.

"Transport expert Ruslan Mukhomedyarov, during a round table discussion on the project from Pushkin Street to Seifullin Avenue, called for the main construction work to begin not this autumn, but in April next year", the press service of the Almaty akimat reported.

The expert suggested not halting construction, but gradually starting work that does not obstruct traffic or narrow roads. In his opinion, the main work should be carried out next year.

As a result, the akimat decided to implement the BRT project in several stages.

It has become known that a preliminary feasibility study for the project was developed back in 2014.

The first section, 1.7 km long, is expected to run from Pushkin Street to Seifullin Avenue. The total length of the BRT from Altyn Orda Street to Zhetysu Street is projected to be 17 km.
