The Chairman of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) Dmitry Malakhov and the Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov met to discuss efforts to combat the legalisation of criminal proceeds.

According to the AFM press service, the parties signed a memorandum on partnership and cooperation.

"Now, in the internal affairs bodies, alongside the financial monitoring bodies, the institution of parallel financial investigations will be fully applied in relation to crimes with a high risk of laundering criminal proceeds. This will allow for the development of more effective investigation methods and the prosecution of the true organisers", the statement said.

At the same time, the department reported that the drug business has now shifted from traditional financing to the sphere of cryptocurrencies, where it is assisted by illegal crypto exchange organisations.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the AFM noted that since last year, the department has identified 55 internet channels that were distributing drugs on the social network Telegram. About 30 materials were sent to the internal affairs bodies regarding these channels, and 18 criminal cases were registered.

In turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Yerzhan Sadenov, noted that AFM employees will now be included in police operational groups.

"AFM employees will now be part of the investigative-operational groups. The method of parallel investigation is being introduced; this will increase the effectiveness of restoring the violated rights of the injured party. There is practical experience. We must actively continue this work after the signing of the memorandum", Sadenov concluded.
