The head of the locomotive depot Smagulov A. and the diesel engineer Meiramgazin M. inflated consumption and illegally appropriated diesel fuel worth 920 million tenge in the Abai region from January to April 2022.
According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, the convicts cited extreme weather conditions in their reports, such as strong winds, to explain the increased diesel consumption during locomotive operation.
In this way, the criminals gained possession of more than 3,000 tonnes of fuel.
As a result, the court found the depot chief guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in prison. Engineer Meiramgazin received 7 years in prison.
Furthermore, both were stripped of the right to hold financially responsible positions.
It should be recalled that earlier, the court of the Beimbet Mailin district handed down a sentence against KTZ officials in the Kostanay region. They were found guilty of stealing diesel fuel and funds allocated for the repair of a railway crane, totalling 12 million tenge.
