Authorities in Transbaikal have introduced a heightened readiness regime due to the threat of foot-and-mouth disease
A state of heightened readiness has been in effect in Russia's Transbaikal Territory since 8 October 2026 due to the threat of foot-and-mouth disease being introduced. The authorities have instructed that livestock be vaccinated in 12 border districts, that grazing of animals near the state border be restricted, and that funds be allocated for the purchase of vaccines. At the same time, there is no official confirmation of an outbreak of the disease in the region.
