In the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR), a wildland fire has been localised within the territory of the Markakol Forestry. Ground forces and aviation were deployed to extinguish it.

WHERE THE FIRE BROKE OUT

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the fire broke out in the Aqzhailau Forestry of the Markakol District.

MES units, forestry staff and Kazavialesookhrana personnel, as well as Kazaviaspas aviation, were deployed to extinguish it.

HOW THE FIRE IS BEING EXTINGUISHED

MES helicopters dropped water on the seats of the fire nine times. The total volume of water dropped amounted to 4.5 tonnes.

According to the ministry, the fire has been localised across the entire area. This means that the spread of the fire has been halted, but work to fully extinguish it continues.

The MES reported that the situation is under control. Rescuers and the services involved continue working to deal with the aftermath of the emergency.

CONTEXT

On 13 September 2026, five forest fires were recorded within Kazakhstan's state forest fund. However, these figures do not reflect all wildland fires over the course of a day.

The FBRK editorial team checked NASA FIRMS satellite monitoring data and counted at least 13 large seats of fire on the same day — predominantly steppe fires, with a total area of approximately 2870 ha.
