Specialists from JSC «KazdorNII» have begun a large-scale study of cement produced in Kazakhstan, used in the construction, reconstruction and repair of the country's roads. The work is being carried out as part of a research project analysing the chemical composition and physico-mechanical properties of domestic cements.

WHAT WORK IS ALREADY UNDERWAY

According to the press service of the Ministry of Transport, the study is being conducted under the project «Analysis of the chemical composition and physico-mechanical properties of cements produced in Kazakhstan».

Currently, specialists are carrying out joint sample selection with representatives of JSC «NC «KazAvtoZhol», the National Centre for Quality of Road Assets and manufacturing plants. Samples are taken directly at the production sites of the enterprises, which allows for the most objective data on the quality of the manufactured products.

Samples have already been taken at enterprises in Mangystau Region, Kyzylorda Region, Turkestan Region and the city of Shymkent.

WHY THE STUDY MATTERS

At JSC «KazdorNII», it was noted that cement is one of the key materials in road construction. The strength of the pavement, frost resistance, resistance to temperature changes and the service life of roads all depend on its characteristics.

The organisation emphasised that studying the properties of the material is of strategic importance for improving the reliability of the country's transport infrastructure.

WHAT THE SCIENTISTS WILL STUDY

During the scientific work, specialists will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the physico-mechanical properties and chemical composition of the cements. They also plan to assess the influence of mineral and chemical additives, and gather data on the range and production volumes of domestic enterprises.

Currently, there are 11 cement plants operating in the country, manufacturing products for the construction industry.

WHAT DOCUMENT WILL BE PREPARED FOLLOWING THE STUDY

One of the key results of the project will be the development of a draft for a new regulatory and technical document: «Road Cement».

The document will make it possible to establish uniform requirements for cements used in the construction of cement concrete roads. This will be a step towards improving the regulatory framework of the industry.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE WORK

According to specialists, the results of the study could contribute to improving the quality of road construction materials and the durability of cement concrete pavements. They should also create a basis for the wider application of modern road construction technologies in Kazakhstan.
