The owner of the RIXOS LAKE BOROVOE hotel and the organisation that launched pyrotechnic devices on the territory adjacent to the Burabay State National Natural Park (SNNP) have been held administratively liable. The fireworks were set off during the fire-hazard period and in windy weather.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Department for Emergency Situations (DES) of Akmola Region, pyrotechnic devices were launched on the territory of the RIXOS LAKE BOROVOE hotel, located near the Burabay SNNP. Footage of the fireworks in the forest area sparked widespread reaction on social media.
WHO WAS HELD LIABLE
For violating fire safety requirements, the hotel owner and the organisation that carried out the launch of the pyrotechnic devices were brought to administrative responsibility.
The actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 410 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation or failure to comply with fire safety requirements").
WHAT THE DES SAID
The DES stated that the violation consisted of permitting the launch of pyrotechnic devices in windy weather during the fire-hazard period.
The department reminded the public of the need to comply with fire safety requirements and to avoid using open flames and pyrotechnic devices in places where this could pose a risk of fire.
WHY THE INCIDENT CAUSED A STIR
The fireworks took place near the territory of the Burabay SNNP, which was one of the reasons for public attention to the situation. A forest fire was recorded on the national park's territory the day after the fireworks display.
The DES of Akmola Region urged the public to comply with fire safety requirements during the fire-hazard period to prevent the threat of fires and to protect nature, property and public safety.
CONTEXT
The fire-hazard season in Kazakhstan officially began in May 2026. More than 7,600 state forest protection workers were deployed to detect and extinguish fires.
According to calculations by the FBRK editorial team based on daily official reports from the Ministry of Ecology, at least 260 forest fires were recorded in Kazakhstan between 15 June and 3 August. According to departmental reports, most of the fires were detected, contained and extinguished in a timely manner. In many cases, lightning strikes were cited as the cause.
