Residents of Temirtau have opposed the possible removal of a metal tank installed in the courtyard of house No. 3 in Microdistrict 9 more than 35 years ago. After discussion of the situation, Akim of the city Sapar Satayev stated that the question of dismantling the object is not currently on the agenda, and no decisions regarding its removal have been made.
WHY THE DISPUTE AROSE
According to the Instagram account temirtau.online, the reason for the public discussion was an injury to a child. According to residents, the issue was subsequently raised in connection with a directive from the prosecutor's office.
In response, residents of the microdistrict organised a petition drive and recorded a video in which they chanted: "Hands off the tank".
In their view, a single accident should not become a reason for dismantling an object that has long been considered part of the area's history.
HOW THE TANK APPEARED IN THE COURTYARD
According to information published by residents on social media, the metal tank appeared in the courtyard in the late 1980s, reportedly in 1989. It is claimed that it was due to be sent for smelting, but residents obtained permission to preserve the object. In exchange, they collected and delivered an equivalent volume of scrap metal to the factory.
Since then, the tank has remained a local landmark and, according to residents, this is not the first time it has become the subject of public debate.
WHAT THE AKIM OF TEMIRTAU SAID
As reported by Akim of Temirtau Sapar Satayev, the question of dismantling the tank is not currently being considered.
According to the head of the city, the surrounding area requires improvement. Should the necessary funding become available, the authorities will consider the possibility of comprehensive improvement of the site in 2027.
Until that time, instructions have been given to ensure proper maintenance of the territory, maintain order, and take necessary measures for the safety of residents.
HOW RESIDENTS REACTED
After the publication of the akim's statement, discussion continued on social media. Some users supported the decision to keep the tank and thanked the city authorities for responding to residents' appeals.
Other commenters expressed the view that issues regarding the maintenance of the object and the condition of the surrounding area needed to be resolved. Some users also complained about an unpleasant smell emanating from the tank.
