Kazakhstan’s economy grew by 4.2% over the nine months of 2026, despite a decline in the oil sector. The main driver of growth remains the non-resource sectors, which account for around 80.5% of the increase in gross domestic product (GDP).

WHICH SECTORS DROVE ECONOMIC GROWTH

At a meeting on the results of the country’s socio-economic development and the execution of the national budget for the nine months of 2026, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov noted the leading role of the non-resource sector in economic growth.

Positive dynamics are being observed in construction, manufacturing, transport, trade and agriculture. Together, these sectors provided around 80.5% of GDP growth.

WHAT WILL BE USED TO DEVELOP THE NON-RESOURCE SECTOR

Olzhas Bektenov stressed the need to use existing reserves for the further development of non-resource industries. As indicators of their potential, he noted high investment activity in manufacturing, information and communications, construction and agriculture, as well as the dynamics of non-resource exports.

Priorities remain the efficient use of existing production capacity and the timely launch of 200 new industrial projects. The Ministry of Transport, together with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), has been instructed to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of containers and wagons with raw materials and components for manufacturing enterprises.

HOW ENTERPRISES WILL BE PROVIDED WITH RAW MATERIALS

The Prime Minister paid separate attention to the development of metallurgy. The Samruk-Kazyna Fund, together with the Ministry of Industry, has been instructed to work out mechanisms for the long-term provision of domestic metallurgical enterprises with raw materials.

The Government also intends to expand the geography of supplies, reduce barriers to Kazakh products entering foreign markets and strengthen control over imports to prevent the entry of illegal products.

Another area is accelerating geological study of the subsoil and identifying promising deposits. The Ministry of Industry has been instructed to complete the key stages of geological study by the end of 2026 and present concrete results.

WHAT THE FIGURES MEAN FOR KAZAKHSTAN’S ECONOMY

The share of non-resource sectors in GDP growth shows their importance for the country’s current economic dynamics against the backdrop of a decline in the oil sector. Investment, utilisation of production facilities, availability of raw materials and export development have been identified by the Government as areas for further growth.
