The man that residents of the Bostandyk district of Almaty spotted on the street with a knife has been detained and hospitalised in a specialised medical facility. The police have reported that there is currently no threat to the public.
WHAT HAPPENED
As reported by the Bostandyk district police department, on 30 August a report of a man with a knife on the street was received at the “102” switchboard, as reported by the Telegram channel “HALYQSTAN”.
A police patrol was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the information, ensured the safety of citizens, detained the man and handed him over to the ambulance crew.
WHERE THE MAN WAS HOSPITALISED
The police established that the detained man is registered at the Centre for Mental Health. Following this, he was hospitalised in a specialised medical facility.
“There is currently no threat to the public,” the police reported.
WHAT RESIDENTS OF THE DISTRICT SAID
A resident of the Bostandyk district, Anastasia Sultanova, spoke about the situation near schools No. 70 and No. 189. According to her, residents feared for the safety of children and other passers-by.
Sultanova claimed that the man, whom she referred to as Alexei, may have threatened passers-by and schoolchildren, as well as damaged neighbours’ property.
WHY RESIDENTS FEAR FOR THEIR SAFETY
According to Anastasia Sultanova, she and other district residents had sent appeals to various city authorities and were awaiting responses.
The woman also stated that neighbours had repaired the damaged property themselves.
