On the approach to Petropavlovsk, after attempts by some heavy goods vehicle drivers to avoid weight and size checks, 93 administrative offences were recorded. Following the inspections, the total amount of fines imposed exceeded 14 million tenge.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Telegram channel “HALYQSTAN”, the situation arose during the republican campaign “Road Safety”. A joint post of the transport inspectorate, police and SOBR special forces officers was operating on the approach to Petropavlovsk.
Some drivers of heavy goods vehicles carrying construction materials left their vehicles on the roadside without undergoing weight and size checks.
Most of the vehicles were located at the turn-off to Petropavlovsk airport, with several more near the “Yuzhny” control post.
WHAT WERE THE RESULTS OF THE CHECKS
After the incident, police officers identified the owners of the abandoned vehicles. Following the investigation, 93 administrative offences were recorded, and the total amount of fines exceeded 14 million tenge.
It was also reported that some carriers attempted to bypass the weight control point via country roads through the airport territory. According to available data, 3 drivers were detained.
WHAT THE AUTHORITIES SAID
The head of the Department of Passenger Transport and Highways of the North Kazakhstan Region (NKR), Yerden Shortybaev, said that many truck owners are not making contact and are not making attempts to remove the abandoned vehicles. In this regard, the authorities are preparing court claims for the forced evacuation of the cars.
The Transport Control Inspectorate and the Police Department stated that control over compliance with weight restrictions will be strengthened. Furthermore, responsibility for the preservation of the road surface is planned to be distributed among all participants in the transport chain, including quarry managers, contracting organisations and carriers.
WHAT THE CARRIERS SAY
According to the carriers themselves, compliance with current weight restrictions makes some journeys economically less viable. They also believe that mobile weight control points should be located directly at loading sites, rather than at the entrances to cities.
At the same time, Kazakh legislation provides for administrative liability for exceeding the permissible weight. The amount of the fine depends on the extent of the overload and the category of the business entity.
