In the Akmola Region, the activities of a group of individuals suspected of illegal extraction of precious metals in the Shortandy District have been suppressed. During operational measures, an underground workshop for processing gold-bearing ore was discovered, and the alleged organiser has been taken into custody.
WHAT LAW ENFORCEMENT ESTABLISHED
The Department of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) for the Akmola Region, coordinated by the prosecutor's office, suppressed the activities of a group of individuals suspected of illegal extraction of precious metals. During investigative and search operations, officers identified an underground workshop equipped for processing gold-bearing ore and extracting precious metals.
WHAT WAS SEIZED DURING THE SEARCHES
During the investigative actions, law enforcement officers seized equipment for crushing and smelting ore, a gold bar weighing 446 grammes, 4 tonnes of gold-bearing material, 6 kg of mercury, as well as funds totalling over 2 million tenge and $8,000. In addition, firearms and ammunition were discovered during the searches.
WHAT STAGE THE INVESTIGATION IS AT
The alleged organiser has been taken into custody. Currently, all individuals who may be involved in the illegal activity are being identified, as well as the volume of illegally extracted precious metals. The investigation is ongoing.
