The President of World Boxing, the Kazakh boxer and head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Kazakhstan, Gennady Golovkin, has been added to the database of the Ukrainian website "Myrotvorets". The reason was World Boxing's decision to lift restrictions on Russian athletes.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to BES.media, Gennady Golovkin was placed in the database of the website "Myrotvorets" following World Boxing's decision to allow Russian boxers to compete in international tournaments under their national flag and with their anthem.
Russian boxers of all ages have been given the opportunity to compete in international tournaments under their national flag and with their anthem. This was previously reported by the Minister of Sport and head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Mikhail Degtyarev.
On social media, Degtyarev wrote that the Russian Boxing Federation had become a full member of World Boxing at the beginning of 2026. According to him, this was preceded by a meeting in Tashkent, at which he and Gennady Golovkin agreed on the return of Russian athletes to the international arena.
WHAT POSITION GOLOVKIN HOLDS
Gennady Golovkin has headed the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan since February 2024. In November 2025, he was elected president of World Boxing for a three-year term. In this role, he succeeded Boris van der Vorst.
World Boxing was founded in April 2023 as the international federation overseeing Olympic boxing.
